MITCHELL VISITS GRAND BAHAMA AND COMMENTS

Fred Mitchell, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Immigration was in Freeport on Wednesday 12 August 2026 to speak to the industrial sector about the labour and immigration needs of Grand Bahama.  Mr. Mitchell said that what came out of the meeting was the need for a balancing act between the demands for imported labour and protecting jobs for Bahamians. He said that there needed to be a commitment to training and getting to the younger Bahamians about work in the trades as early as in the tenth grade.  He met with the Grand Bahama Shipyard and also with the trainers in the sector for the trades in Grand Bahama and with the Grand Bahama Chamber of Commerce headed by Ralph Hepburn.
