The Royal Bahamas Defence Force issued the following statement:
Her Majesty’s Bahamian Ship (HMBS) Lignum Vitae, under the command of Senior Lieutenant Bertram Bowleg, intercepted a 30 foot wooden sloop while on routine patrol in the Southern Bahamas on Tuesday morning.
The vessel was apprehended 13 nautical miles west of Ragged Island at approximately 11:30 am, where a total of 98 Haitian migrants inclusive of 80 males, 12 females and 6 children were discovered on board.
The migrants will be transported to the Capital and handed over to Immigration authorities for further processing.
