Farewell To Doswell Coakley Former Senator

Doswell Coakley sworn in as a Senator on Monday 29th January 2007

Statement From The Chairman of The PLP

On the Passing Of Doswell Coakley
For Immediate Release
15 October 2019

The party learned with great sadness last evening of the passing of Doswell Coakley late of Freeport, formerly of Nassau. Mr Coakley was a Bahamian patriot and one who gave yeoman’s service to his country.

He served in many capacities in his lifetime as a police officer, the Director of Immigration, the Consul General in New York, as a candidate for office and as a Senator. His last public role was that of coordinating the work of the Committee to report on the next steps for the development of Freeport, a city which he truly loved.

He was a faithful Anglican. He was a supporter of the Progressive Cause. He worked with the late Sir Lynden Pindling.

Sadly, Mr Coakley has now left us and with it a great deal of knowledge as well about our country. He will be missed.

On behalf of the Leader of the PLP, Philip Brave Davis and Mrs Davis, Deputy Leader Chester Cooper and Mrs Cooper, all party officers, members and supporters, I extend our condolences and prayerful support to his wife Jan and the entire family.

End
