A CHILD DIES IN A LIGHTENING STORM

by editor editor September 13, 2026

Every time there is serious weather in The Bahamas, we sit on pins and needles because the warnings that come from the weather office are sometimes too late or not seen by those who ought to see it. We are so used to generally good weather that people hardly pay attention to notices like small craft warnings. So on Monday 7 September 2026 a serve thunderstorm warning went out and it rained cats and dogs. The thunder was incredible and the lightening worse. We later found out that an American and his family were killed in a plane crash that was most likely weather related, and then the stunning news that a little boy on his way to the R M Bailey High school was struck by lightning and died. This is sad beyond belief and we extend our condolences to his family. May he rest in peace. As for those who are yet alive, we must remember that Mother Nature is not to be played with and we ought to respect the weather and take appropriate precautions.
