NEVILLE WISDOM DIES AND PRAISES FOLLOW

The following statement was issued by Fred Mitchell, Chairman of the Progressive Liberal Party following the death of Neville Wisdom, former MP and Minister of the government:

5 September 2026

We learned this morning of the passing of Neville Wisdom who served in the Parliament as MP for Delaporte and Minister for Youth Sports and Culture.

Mr Wisdom was a powerful intellect and warrior for Culture, Youth and Sports. During his tenure Junkanoo was elevated to another level, a higher plain. The Youth of the nation excelled. In Sports, the country had amongst its most stellar achievements during his tenure.

Because of his advocacy, Cabinet agreed to rename the then Harold Road to the now Tonique Darling Highway in honour of our Olympic athlete.

He was a close confidante of Prime Minister Lynden Pindling and Prime Minister Perry Christie, the latter of whom appointed him to his Cabinet.

Post elected politics, he continued to be a passionate voice for those causes and a trusted advisor to Prime Minister Philip Davis.

On behalf of the Leader of the Party Hon Philip Davis and our entire Parliamentary team, officers, members and supporters, we offer condolences to his wife Manita, his son and wider family. May he rest in peace.
