EDWARD SEAGA DIES

Senator Fred Mitchell in 20 with the late Edward Seaga and then medical student Dr. Kevin Bowe.

Statement by the Leader of the PLP  Philip Davis

On the passing of Edward Seaga

For Immediate Release

28 May 2019

I am saddened to learn of the passing of Edward Seaga, the former Leader of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) and former Prime Minister of Jamaica.

Known for his fiscal conservatism, Seaga is probably best known for stabilizing the public finances of Jamaica during the turbulent 1980’s.

With his passing, brings to an end an era in the modern political development of Jamaica.

I cherish our interactions at both the party and governmental levels as this strengthened our diplomatic and political ties, especially after the transition into governance.

On behalf of my Parliamentary colleagues, the officers and members of the Progressive Liberal Party, we express our heartfelt condolences to his family and the Jamaican people on his passing.

May his soul rest in peace.
