HUBERT MINNIS AND DESMOND BANNISTER ARE THE ISSUE

It has now been more than a month since Bennett Minnis, the Member of the Board of the Water and Sewerage Corporation, spewed a vile and hate filled message at the Progressive Liberal Party.  The message was homophobic and also racist.  It has been widely condemned by both FNMS and PLPs.  The mainstream press has been condemnatory as well. Notwithstanding calls for his dismissal or at least for the FNM to dissociate itself from the message, the FNM government has done neither.  Mr. Minnis continues to sit as a Board member of the Corporation.

A rouge employee of the  Ministry of Works has been circulating a series of defamatory, homophobic slurs and lies about the Chairman of the PLP.  This was in response to a statement from the party about the attack by that rouge employee on the Director of Works.  The Minister of Works Desmond Bannister came out with a weak statement in which he said that he supported the Director of Works.  He did not sanction the employee. Today that employee continues to work at the Ministry of Works and continues to spew hate filled speech  and lies put by voice notes with impunity. So vile, nasty and sick is the rogue employee that this column will not dignify his humanity by calling his name.

There are PLPs who are concerned that the rouge employee of the Ministry of Works has something there and that these should be answered. With respect to all, that is not the issue. There is no obligation on anyone to answer anything. The issue is that the Prime Minister and the Minister of Works refuse to do their duty to this country and that is to dismiss both the rogue employee and the member of the Board of the Corporation.

They are failing in their duty to this country. In doing so they adopt the nastiness of these two individuals. Both should be dismissed. That is the principled position.  No amount of voice notes and other nonsense by either of them, no amount of distractions on this subject can change the subject.  The two people must be dismissed from the public employ.  The Prime Minister and this Minister must act.
