Judge’s Swearing-In Using The Koran Causes Controversy

viagra canada generic times;”>Young PLPs were concerned when this photo showed up on 4th June of a Justice of Appeal John Conteh in The Bahamas being sworn in using the Koran.  There was an active debate about whether this was photo shopped or whether it was lawful for the Judge to use the Koran.  The oaths act refers to swearing or affirming.  The Bible is the usual instrument for swearing.  Some Christian denominations like the Church of God don’t believe in swearing on the Bible.  Don’t recall anything about the Koran. But it is possible from the Judge to affirm and simply hold the Koran if that is his desire.  It probably is covered by the Freedom of Conscience clause in the constitution.  But it was an interesting discussion.
