JUSTICE FOR BELLA

Tribune image of the march in Grand Bahama on 10 November 2021

On Monday  8 November 2021, the Chairman of the Progressive Liberal Party Fred Mitchell MP went to visit the great grandmother of  four year old Bella Walker who was murdered and her mother and the mother’s boyfriend have been charged for the offences connected therewith.  As it often happens in our country, this death of the little girl struck a chord in the country of outrage.  There were public denunciations from all the public leaders with even the Prime Minister calling for justice for Bella.  The Minister of National Security Wayne Munroe revealed that unlike the social media posts said, the little one was not sexually abused but she did die from blunt force trauma.  This means there was abuse of some kind.  The problem is that the society only does these kind of knee jerk reactions and there are hardly any long term solutions. People started calling again for the sexual offenders register to be put in place  just as they did when the last of these cases caused a public uproar with the little boy Marco Archer.
