REVERSING THE ELECTRICITY BILL

There was an announcement made on 28 February 2022 that the power rates were going to go up.  That is what BPL said.  The problem is that the Cabinet had not approved it.  URCA, the regulator, had no application to consider .  The Minister did not know about it.  The Prime Minister Philip Davis speaking from Belize had it reversed straight away. Then the next day the Leader of the Opposition alleged that the  hedge programme against the price of fuel which they left in place was cancelled by the PLP.  This we understand is not true.  Our point here is why would BPL did such a thing as announce  an increase without permission? Secondly, what is going to be done about the price of fuel in the country and of electrical power? Isn’t it time that the PLP moves to solarize the country?
