Sean McWeeney On The Financial Services Sector

Former Attorney General Sean McWeeney since his retirement from active politics has been developing an expertise in trust law and in the financial services sector.  He gave a speech on 18 September 2018 at a recent conference on the sector in New Providence that outlined a profile of the sector and where it’s headed.  He gave bad news and good news.  It seems that the bad is outweighing the good. The bottom line is that while The Bahamas has so far weathered the storms of the European assault on financial services jurisdictions, it is going to get worse with the pressure for an open beneficial share register. There is an alternative business coming from Latin America and so that is filling the gap for the moment but doesn’t seem very positive.  Anyway, we thought it would be good to read what he said.  You may click here for the full statement delivered on
