THE JAMAICANS GO OVERBOARD ON THE COMMONWEALTH

Baroness Patricia Scotland and Kamina Johnson Smith

Last week, the Government of Jamaica issued a statement in which it tried to defend their decision to  run against Baroness Patricia Scotland , the incumbent Secretary General of the Commonwealth.  No amount of explaining, however, can help them  displace the fact, they are being perceived as  tools of the British to disrupt and break up the Caricom consensus which was clearly in favour of Baroness Scotland.  The Jamaican candidate shockingly indicated that in contradistinction to Baroness Scotland she will not be listening to the small states in the Commonwealth.  The question is why would Jamaica that has always been the revolutionary champion of the Caribbean involve itself in a campaign which is obviously British subterfuge?  It is embarrassing.
