The New Labour Law Idle Employer Complaints

The Government proposes as one of its last acts in this term to pass an act to amend the employment laws to increase the amount of redundancy pay that employers must pay when they declare redundancies.  It also is building in a warning period for redundancies.  The employer’s representatives through the Bahamas Chamber of Commerce are screaming bloody murder.   Of course the biggest loud mouth is Dionysio D’Aguilar.  Has no idea what he’s talking about and it’s a false conflict.  The employees in this country are always at a disadvantage in labour laws and it’s about time the PLP does something to stop these companies from using the law to get rid of unions and to get rid of older employees when they want to pay people less wages.  We think that the law is progressive and applaud Labour Minister Shane Gibson for seeking to amend the law.
