THE PRIME MINISTER URGES CHANGE IN GRAND BAHAMA

by editor editor October 25, 2026

On 21 October 2026, Wednesday evening at the Grand Bahama Shipyard, Prime Minister the Hon. Philip Davis set out five assurances on the future of Grand Bahama.

1. Change will be lawful. It will come through Parliament and the other legal steps required, after public consultation.

2. Nothing will be done retrospectively. Vested rights, contracts and the protection of investments will be properly addressed.

3. Licence holders’ lawful rights will be identified, recorded and respected. Licence holders will have a full say in how any change is made.

4. Investors will have certainty. The law will be clear and published, with transparent decisions and access to lawful procedures for everyone.

5. The transition will be orderly. Services will continue, with responsibilities, staff, funding and systems in place before any function moves. The skills of Port Authority staff, many of them Grand Bahamians, will be needed.

In the Prime Minister’s words: “Whether we change is settled. How we change is yours to shape.”

Read the Green Paper, Grand Bahama: A Framework for Stability and Growth, at www.gbframework.com. Public consultation opens on 1 November and runs to 30 April 2027. Have your say.
