Traffic Fatalities

Each week, there is carnage on our streets, not just homicides which are terrible but from road traffic accidents. This is something that is entirely preventable. Last week, we sought to bring this to the attention of the public in this column. We have been urging the PLP to take up the issue and in particular the Men’s Branch of the PLP. Finally, the PLP’s Shadow Minister spoke up with Glenys Hanna Martin pleading that something be done. The Government and the police only went into gear though when the US Government issue a warning about driving in this country and the fatalities. Since then the Prime Minister was interested in the subject and promised to do something about the law on killing in the course of dangerous driving. This law allows someone to kill someone with a car and then walk away with a fine and that’s the end of the matter.
