Jeff Lloyd’s Idle Plea

It was vintage Belinda Wilson, the bellicose and irrational Leader of the Bahamas Union Of Teachers (BUT).  It was only a matter of time before the romance with the FNM dissipated.  She called one of her staple emergency meetings at the start of the day on 15 March at the BUT headquarters to tell teachers that they were going to file trade disputes on issues like the fact that they haven’t been paid their lumps sum 1000 dollars that the Government is bound to pay by agreement with  the Union.  It may have been triggered by a foolish statement made by the Minister of Education in the House that he would be looking at staffing issues which suggested that mass firings were coming in the teaching ranks. Of course we say as PLPs it could not have happened to a finer bunch.  Minister of Education Jeff Lloyd made that statement about give us a chance. What a joke. We thought they had all the answers.
