MARKING THE CENTENERY OF FIDEL CASTRO’S BIRTH

The Cuban Embassy in Nassau sponsored a colloquium on the life and times of Fidel Castro, the revolutionary that changed the face of Cuba and the hemisphere. Fidel Castro would have turned 100 years on 13 August 2026. The Harry Moore Library at the University of The Bahamas was full as it listened to testimonies about his life and times. Ambassador Ron Pinder chaired the event. The Cuban Ambassador Juan Carlos Sanchez and the Chinese Ambassador Yan Jairong attended as well. The Foreign Minister Fred Mitchell spoke for the government of The Bahamas’ and former Prime Minister Perry Christie who served as Prime Minister during the last years of the presidency of Fidel spoke to the mark that he made on the world. The Minister of Tourism Glenys Hanna Martin attended as well.
