For Immediate Release
PLP Chairman Senator Fred Mitchell met with his doctor on Thursday 21 March 2019. The date marked the sixth week since his accident which resulted in a fractured bone to the fifth metatarsal in his right foot known as a “ Jones Fracture”. Senator Mitchell has had his right foot in a calf length cast since that time on 7 February to the 21st March. On the 21st March, the doctor was satisfied that sufficient progress had been made in the healing of the fracture that the Senator can now walk unassisted. There is to be a review in two weeks’ time from 21st March. It is expected that the fracture will take a year to heal.
