PINTARD LOSES HIS WAY WILD AND WOOLY

by editor editor October 18, 2026

In a word, the performance of Michael Pintard as Leader of the Opposition in Parliament on Wednesday 14 October 2026 was pathetic. How does a grown man, up from poverty and raised by a single mother, a religious woman no less, become so bitter and recalcitrant and ungracious? Every word out of his mouth is accusation and charge, no grace, no thankfulness to be 64 years old and alive, a Bahamian and Leader of the Opposition. He is one of a few in the country who has held that position.

Let us see if we can recount them all: Roland Symonette, Geoffrey Johnstone, Cecil Wallace Whitfield, Kendal Isaacs, Cyril Tynes, Henry Bostwick, Norman Solomon, Lynden Pindling, Perry Christie, Hubert Ingraham, Loretta Butler Turner, Alvin Smith, and Hubert Minnis. Michael Pintard has joined this list of some pretty eminent persons in our country’s history. Has he acquitted himself well in the position?

The answer is an unqualified no. He has failed to inspire. He has failed to excite the base. He has not been able to provide an alternative vision. He is a loser. He has lost three elections in a row.

What then comes as result of all of this, it seems, is a bitterness that passes all understanding.

Last week in the House he stood for the second time in two weeks throwing shade at the PLP and mentioning a thousand times the MP for Fox Hill in ad hominem attacks. Mr. Mitchell who was not even present in the room is Mr. Pintard’s favourite hobby horse. In his address, Mr. Pintard was pleading to the public that he loved The Bahamas just as much as the government MPs and he rejected all the criticism of him on that score.

We say again: mouth can say anything. It is by your deeds that we shall know you.

Just on the plain facts. Mr. Pintard accuses the PLP of complaining to the United States about the work of the Drug Enforcement Agency in The Bahamas. The fact is it was the Drug Enforcement Agency operatives who by sworn documents admitted that they were operating in The Bahamas without the permission or knowledge of The Bahamas government. That is their testimony.

So if Mr. Pintard says that it is wrong for a foreign agent to be working in The Bahamas without the knowledge of the government of The Bahamas, what then is he complaining about when the Government of The Bahamas raises the matter on behalf of the Bahamian people.

His performance was pathetic.
