The following statement was issued by the Chairman of the PLP Senator Fred Mitchell who is also the Opposition Spokesman on Foreign Affairs:

5 August 2021

The Progressive Liberal Party expresses concern over the violence that broke out during a demonstration today outside of Parliament in Kingstown, Saint Vincent. Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves was injured during the violent confrontation.

I have reached out to the Chairman of the governing party in St Vincent who confirmed that the Prime Minister’s injury was not life threatening. The Chairman conveyed Leader Philip Davis’ concern.

The PLP is opposed to all forms of violence.
