Foreign Minister Fred Mitchell announced today that the CELAC Summit on 27 January in Quito, Ecuador agreed to a fact finding mission to Haiti at the request of the Haitian Government.  Elections for President in Haiti have been cancelled and no new date has been set.  The President has to demit office on 7 February and the constitution of Haiti is silent in cases where there is no President-elect to hand off to.  The mission is designed to see whether there is space for CELAC to be able to assist in causing proper elections to be held.  The countries in the mission are Venezuela, The Bahamas, Uruguay and Ecuador.
