THE WEATHER STRIKES AGAIN WITH HUMAN ERROR AT WORK

On Monday 7 September 2026 an 80 year old pilot and his wife and two adult grandchildren left Great Harbour Cay in their small private plane and never arrived at their destination in Miami. The flight tracker radar shows that some 15 miles off the west coast of Andros they fell off the radar. The back chat is they ran into a severe thunderstorm, the plane’s wings broke off and they hit the water and died. The bodies were recovered by family members. The plane has not been found. The chat on line, in the press and on TV was that the families found the bodies without any help from Bahamian authorities.  That story is incorrect. The Royal Bahamas Defence Force and the US Coastguard all set out as soon as the alarm was sounded but they were rebuffed by bad weather. It is true that the families found the bodies but that happened to be a matter of fortuity as opposed to negligence or inaction by Bahamian authorities. This is always the track that is sent out in the public domain when it involves Americans and accidents in The Bahamas. Somehow, it is always The Bahamas at fault.  Meanwhile it shows quite clearly why the weather service offered by Robert Carron and his partners is so badly needed, to be able to warn pilots not to take chances in bad weather.
