CONVENTION IS COMING FOR THE FNM
The date has now been announced for the much ballyhooed but much postponed convention for the Free National Movement. Their convention is to decide whether or not they are going to go with Michael Pintard as the Leader of the Free National Movement or whether they are going to take another tack.
The bets are that Mr. Pintard is a dead man walking until 30 April 2027. At that time, at the end of the night the delegates will decide that a new person, most likely a man will take the helm. The choice seems that it should either be Kwasi Thompson MP or Andre Rollins MP.
The cobble up that former Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham was said to be brokering, where former Minister Zhivargo Laing gets into the Senate and then leads the party from there in to the general election, seems most unlikely.
Mr. Pintard says that he is not going anywhere, despite the fact that he was listed by his own consultants as the least popular of the leaders of the three parties in the last election. Imagine that, less popular than Lincoln Bain, the political crook that is lying his behind off to get into power. Sad indeed.
Then you have into the public domain last week a report of a voice recording inside the conclave the FNM held last weekend, where Andre Rollins laid into Mr. Pintard and told him how in God’s name could he stay when he is only approved by eight per cent of the people in Grand Bahama his home turf. Very sad.
However at week’s end, Mr. Pintard was still standing. He thinks he can tough it out.
Then another fly in the ointment Senator Rick Fox, with a new haircut and shave and appointed by Mr. Pintard in the Senate. To the gasp of his own side, he said he intended not to sit on the back benches but to run for leadership in the FNM and he did not say what that position would be but it seems he thinks he should be leader himself.
We shall see.
