VAT TO FALL TO TEN PER CENT

The Progressive Liberal Party made good on its election promise to reduce VAT across the board to 10 per cent.  The Opposition MPs despite arguing against it, also voted for it with the exception of Andre White MP for St Anne’s. The vote took place in the House of Assembly on Thursday 2 December 2021.  It now goes to the Senate.  The Bill is likely to become law on 1 January 2021.  The FNM tried to amend the bill in Committee stage to restore the position on breadbasket items.  The idea was to show that the PLP was not supporting the poor.  The only problem is that the FNM refuses to accept is that the zero rating that they are arguing for on breadbasket items has actually made it more expensive the poor and not less. Congratulations to the party on carrying out this promise.
