THE PLP CHAIRMAN LAYS OUT THE CASE ON POWER CUTS

The following statement was issued by the Chairman of the Progressive Liberal Party in answer to the complaints about the power disruptions by Bahamas Power and Light.  Mr. Mitchell said that those who are piling on complaints and criticisms were the ones who had the responsibility under the FNM and Hubert Minnis to fix the problems but they did not:

The PLP on this power issue believes the science and the advice of the Bahamian professionals who have been assembled to deal with the legacy and future issues of BPL.

The comments of Desmond Bannister, Whitney Heastie, Michaela Barnett Ellis, Shannendon Cartwright , Duane Sands, Candia Dames and last but not least Michael  Pintard are interesting descriptions,  nice history  lessons and expected  Opposition  outrage. We clap our hands for them on those  points but ask them: how does it help  our present problems?

The short is answer is the comments do not help.  Instead they seem designed to undercut the work of the professionals on the job and create greater anxiety in the population. Instead of urging patience, they are exacerbating the situation.

One thing is clear and certain: all the names that I listed worked for or were a part of or supported the Hubert Minnis’ Free National Movement administration.

Isn’t it interesting that having been divided over the general election they have all come together over electricity blackouts? Wonders never cease.

The next thing that is clear is that whatever happened during their time in government, whatever they did, it did not stop what is happening today. That is a straightforward historic fact. Not blaming them but they did not fix the problem.

The maxim is clear: they who come to equity must come with clean hands.

The Bible says it another way. We must confess our sins. God is faithful and just  and will forgive us our sins.

We invite these FNM partisans to take our sound humbly offered advice, then  go out in peace to love and serve  the people of The Bahamas.

As for BPL let’s leave that to the professionals. Let us give them an honest chance to fix the problem. We all appreciate how the system has underperformed. Let us encourage these professionals to get it fixed instead of undermining them.
