HOW BPL CAN MAKE AMENDS

Given all the public controversy about the Bahamas Power and Light and its inability to supply power to the customers of New Providence and other islands, and to quell the public ire, our view is that BPL ought to find some way to make amends. Normally what should happen is BPL should make good the damage they have caused by ruining the equipment and food of their customers. That should still be a remedy available in law but for many customers that is probably out of reach because of the expenses of having to pursue that remedy in the courts. There is also a suspicion that BPL has some regulatory limitations in their contract of power supply that might limit that as a private remedy. Our suggestions are these. They should not bill any customer for the next billing cycle or they should discount severely the bills for the next ninety days. Perhaps that will help quiet the noise. In the mean time we sincerely hope that the professionals that we have defended at BPL are getting it right and the disruptions will stop or be seriously abated.
