A BILL TO PROECT THE ELDERLY

We wish to congratulate Michael Darville, the Health Minister, and Barbara Cartwright, the Social Services Minister, for bringing to Parliament a bill to protect the elderly and to codify the rights of the elderly and the standards of protection. This is long overdue. The Bahamas has 7 per cent of its population today over the age of 65. This is the category of person that the bill seeks to protect. There are too many people abandoned by their relatives in old age. The bill is designed to enforce elder care. The matter was tabled in the House on Wednesday 16 September 2026. Let us hope there is a quick debate and passage of this important piece of legislation.
