BRIAN SEYMOUR’S REPORT CARD ON MPS

May 10th 2017, was first thought  to be a disaster to the PLP with a 35 to 4 defeat at polls. Two years later, the defeat has turned into a blessing.  A blessing because it has allowed the PLP to regenerate, and return to its core values, that is, being the party that defends the least of these amount us. The party of the ordinary man. The party that believes in the Bahamian people.  Today begins a four-part series of reporting on the government ministers since their election to office, and MP’s where applicable. Renward Wells, Minister of Transport and

A WHITE BAHAMIAN COMPLAINS ABOUT THE BANKS

(Editor’s Note:  This was interesting to read because in our country most people believe that only Black businessmen and women run into this problem.  Stuart Cove is white. HE is not a local conchy joe but of British ancestry. OF course that is beside the point but just saying. Most people think that the banks in this country discriminate against Black Bahamians.  He has a successful and tried and tested tourist business.  On the face of it, there is no reason why he should not have obtained his loan by now.  Here is what The Tribune says was his complaint)

THE RED CROSS FAIR

Senator Fred Mitchell with the grandchildren of Stalwart Councillor John Rolle of Fox Hill at the Red Cross Fair at Clifford Park 7 April 2019 and with Leonardo and Reagan Hidalgo. Well the Red Cross Fair is in the history books for this year.  It was a two day affair and they tried to change to model to attract more people especially the new generation to the fair. Interesting attempt and the pubic seemed generally pleased. Some complaints of sticker shock when asked to pay 10 dollars to get in a five dollar for children. No money left to spend.

The Aftermath Of Buju

by Andrew Burrowsfrom his Facebook Page31 March 2019 So this just happened in the parking lot leaving Buju. I’m ahead of this guy and his female passenger heading toward the bottleneck to leave the parking lot. I see the guy trying to push his way ahead even though my car is clearly in front of him. I rev up just to let him know I’m there plus I had my window down having just witnessed a lady driving into a guy’s car and then claiming she didn’t. We approach the exit and boom. He rolls up on to the back

JANET GETS A KNIGHTHOOD

While on the one hand you can have some sympathy for Janet Bostwick whose husband Henry may have been the cause of the FNM not giving her this honour of a knighthood before now, you have to remark how silly this all seems that a Bahamian woman who  pioneered the presence of women in the  sovereign Bahamian not British Parliament by being the first, would so lower herself as to accept the award from the British of a knighthood, albeit recommended by this weak  neo colonial government we have here in The Bahamas  under the FNM. It is simply a

We never believed that there was an offence for a minute.

GIVING AWAY THE STORE TO DISNEY

Take a good look at this scene in South Eleuthera. You may see it this way no more. The Disney Company was given permission by the Government of The Bahamas last week without an environmental impact study to develop this pristine area of Eleuthera.  It promises 120 jobs in construction for Bahamians.  All the concessions will be run by Disney.  No Bahaman vendors. There will be dredging of the seabed. The environmental groups are going nuts. The MP for the area Hank Johnson says nothing. He  is thought through his wife to be commercially tied up to this venture. Doesn’t

LETTER TO THE EDITOR ABOUT FRED MITCHELL

The Prime Minister claiming credit for the solar project at the parking lot Q E Sports Centre EDITOR, The Tribune Kudos to Hon Fred Mitchell for the insight when he was Foreign Minister of persuading the UAE to make the $4million donation and yesterday the largest solar generating unit was opened officially – of course the Minnis government made no mention or reference to the work of Mr Mitchell – would never expect that. Comments during the ceremony – 30% reusables by 2030? Why by 2030 that’s more than 10 years time… surely Nassau it should be the highest priority

Freeport Power and Light: Double Standard On The Coopers

There was a vicious note sent around by one Navardo Saunders, one of the FNM trolls, which claimed that the Cooper family who owns the franchises for Burger King, KFC and other fast food franchises in Grand Bahama were in trouble with the electricity company because they were using a device allegedly that lowers how much electricity they use. Freeport Power apparently has started an investigation and is accusing the company of allegedly abstracting power before the meter. Our bet is that it is absolutely false. The thing is the device which the power company is concerned about is in

BOEING AND THE FAA OUGHT TO BE ASHAMED

Four hundred or close enough people have died in two brand new Boeing 737 aircraft crashes within the last six months. The Ethiopian Airlines Company that flew the last of them that crashed immediately grounded all the rest of their fleet. They were followed by the British, the Chinese, the Indians. The Americans kept insisting that the aircraft was airworthy and that there was no need to intervene. Ultimately, they did. This seems a not so strange case in America today of putting money over the lives of people. This is the America of President Donald Trump. Then the President

VIOLENCE ALL AROUND US

While the Minister of National Security Marvin Dames was contemplating whether he should resign or not, he was in Vienna for a narcotic drug conference. No doubt he feasted on Vienna Sausages in that exciting and sexy capital of Austria.  He should resign.  In the meantime, he might have something to say about the avalanche of homicides, shootings, and two suicides that took place in The Bahamas.  He has a lot to say about too much except when he is going to resign  after being judicially condemned but nothing to say about that.

WILL THERE BE ANYTHING LEFT AFTER THE FNM IS FINISHED?

Would the FNM sell their Ma in the kitchen? Well the Port of Nassau is gone, both the cruise port and the commercial port.  The FNM has sold everything that they can get their hands on.  We hear that the Morgan’s Bluff Port in Andros is next on their agenda.  Then they want to sell Nassau Flight Services.  The problem is twofold.  They are selling these national equity positions to their friends, family and lovers at fire sale prices.  The public wants to know will there be anything left the time they are finished? This makes the issue of their

JUAN MCCARTNEY’S PIECE MODEL OF JOURNALISM

For some reason the wicked vixen Candia Dames did not write the usual tendentious anti PLP drivel last week.  Instead the column was turned over to Juan McCartney, the talk show host.  He of the various tirades and anti PLP rants, has suddenly (can you believe it) seemed the very picture of reason when compared with the wicked vixen. We mention him in particular to distinguish our own passions about the unethical actions of Ms. Dames and our respect for journalism that even though you don’t agree with every thought, you can say “well that’s fair comment”.  Such was the

BRIAN SEYMOUR WRITES FROM FREEPORT HANDS OFF OUR PRINCE GEORGE PORT

BAHAMAS PRESS REMINDS US ABOUT THE UBP WITH AN OLD LETTER FROM OSWALD BROWN

In fact, under Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham, the current FNM is a reincarnation of the United Bahamian Party (UBP), although it’s not as openly racist and oppressive against blacks as the predominantly white UBP was before the Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) defeated them at the polls in

WE OBJECT TO THE NAME TOUTED FOR NEW CHIEF JUSTICE

The talk around town is that Prime Minister Hubert Minnis plans to appoint Brian Moree Q C to be Chief Justice.  The PLP should not agree to this appointment.  Mr. Moree does not deserve the appointment. We have to be very careful about these appointments. He spoke out against the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME).  Mr. Moree who is supposed to be lawyer was against the Bahamas signing on to the treaty which would have eased a lot of the issues that surround us now joining the World Trae Organization. Instead, his words played to the prejudices and racism
