FNM STILL BRAYIING LIKE A STUCK RECORD FROM THE OUTSIDE

The whole country knows that there are power cuts going on in New Providence and throughout the islands. It has happened with increasing frequency in the last three months after a combination of misadventure and bad planning and over exuberance. This is squarely the fault of the management of BPL and they appear to be trying to fix it.

This column has been clear, we do not believe that fossil fuels is the answer. The PLP ought to fulfill its promise to ensure that every household has solar power and is off the grid and leave the massive generation of power to the commercial sector to pay for.  This has been rejected. While the power is off, the sun is still shining. Our Chinese friends can help immediately.

Having said that, we were quite amused last week that the President of the Bar Council Kahlil Parker issued a statement last week slamming the government over the power cuts in the courts. Suddenly, he is concerned about justice when lawyers postpone cases endlessly and delay justice by this artifice.

The fact is the Courts are running independently and the Chief Justice is responsible for what happens in the Courts. He is the President of the Bar and doesn’t even know the law.

That aside, he is an FNM and is only the latest of the FNM’s again to be crying from the outside braying at the moon about power cuts. What precisely did that statement do to solve the power problem that he could not have accomplished by simply writing the Chief Justice and asking for a time line to fix the issue?

The bottom line is this is politics. The FNM and their supporters and advocates have simply determined that they must keep piling on to make it look like they are doing something to solve the problem, but they are not. We insist that all they are doing is adding to public anxiety about the issue while doing nothing to solve a problem that is of their own making by their inattention while in office.
