BEATNG THE TIRESOME DRUM OF THE NEGATIVE BY THE FNM

by editor editor September 13, 2026

Last week, the Prime Minister was forced by reporters on the fly to answer a question about an alleged connection between Warren “Spy” Ellis, the businessman gunned down in Abaco the week before in downtown Marsh Harbour, and himself. The answer: there is no connection. Further, the Prime Minister asked the reporter why they were trying to make something out of nothing.

This is the modus operandi of Candia Dames, the Nassau Guardian’s Editor. It’s called a gotcha question. The Prime Minister or some other public officials can be at a function dealing with something totally unrelated to the subject of the occasion and bingo the question is asked and the public official is caught unawares, like a deer with its eyes in the headlights.

In some senses you can see why the U S President Donald Trump often attacks the reporters in personal terms when he hears what he considers to be a stupid question.

Our Prime Minister does not engage in that way but he was right in the instance we are talking about to rebuke the reporter’s question.

The Nassau Guardian didn’t like it and said that the Prime Minister thought that the press was a part of his p r machinery.  That’s is not true. What he knows is when there is a put up job in place.

The Nassau Guardian has become a mouthpiece for the Free National Movement. There is not one negative headline that they refuse to print. Last week, it was the Leader of the Opposition pressing again on a point that was answered by the government. There is no housing contract between the late businessman Mr. Ellis and the government. Then there was the attack on the Robert Carron owned weather service and trying to make that look as if something nefarious was happening.

The general election is over but the FNM and its surrogates have not it accepted that they lost the election fair and square. So we have to put up with this negative drum beat from the FNM and their surrogates.  Our public officials should learn to rebuke them strongly but respectfully,
